Course units

Course overview:

This qualification is designed to enable learners to confidently communicate with deaf people using British Sign Language (BSL) in a range of everyday situations. Building on Level 1 skills, the course supports learners in developing both receptive and productive skills, allowing them to participate in longer, more varied conversations and express themselves with greater fluency and confidence.

Students will learn to communicate about real-life, routine, and daily experiences. They will be able to understand and use BSL for most routine interactions and begin to manage some non-routine conversations, with an increased awareness of BSL grammar and structure.

Course content includes:

  • Understanding and answering questions in everyday conversations
  • Describing people, animals, and objects (appearance, behaviour, personality, feelings)
  • Describing personal routines and daily activities (at school, college, work, home, or leisure)
  • Talking about events or activities in the past, present, and future
  • Expressing attitudes, likes/dislikes, opinions, and preferences
  • Discussing everyday health topics (illnesses, treatment, hospitals)
  • Describing places you visit, your home, and your address

In addition to core content, students will choose one optional theme for further development:

  • Eating and Drinking
  • Spending and Shopping
  • Travel and Holidays
